Honestly, success on Medium is very random. You never know what's going to happen. I started a few months ago and was making a few cents until suddenly an article of mine went viral. I don't even think it was one of my best pieces.
Make sure you're following Medium's Distribution Guidelines and always read the guidelines of each pub you're trying to get into.
There are some facebook groups, like "Medium Writers and Bloggers" that are a good place to share your writing and support other writers.
Being rejected is perfectly normal, you just have to keep trying. Don't stop trying to get into a pub just because they rejected you once. The Ascent rejected me too but I kept sending pieces to them and they eventually published some of them.

I think your writing is amazing. You clearly write for the reader, which is key. Have in mind that, on Medium, it's not just the quality of your writing that matters. Structure and format also play a big role.
If you'd like some specific tips on structruring your articles, send me an email to email@example.com. It's easier to explain things by email than by Medium responses, and I'd be happy to help you.
I wish you all the best!
